Get to know your child's favorite subjects
Apr 11, 2022Sometimes when we are engaging with our children, we forget they might be interested in something totally different than we are. I remember wanting my daughter to love Mary Jane shoes, they were so cute on her! It turns out, she loved heels from age 2. This was a major "NO!", for her, it was me not realizing who she is.
Sometimes when we talk with our children about school, they tell us all the regular words, and so we move on. Next time ask them:
"What are some interesting words you learned this week?" - There should be at least one.
"What is something you thought the teacher could have explained better?"
With just these two questions, you'll get a huge insight into what they remember learning. As a child enters the classroom, they decide whether or not they like the subject by how the information is presented. If they want clarification, they usually want to know more. Together, as a family, answer their questions and don't forget to celebrate the win. You're taking steps to ensure your child will be successful in this world!
